SKATEBOARD PARK

In May 2000, a representative from the Asbury Methodist Church proposed to the Mayor and Council to have small ramp constructed behind the church in an effort to keep skateboarders off of the streets and sidewalks.  This discussion led to research of liability issues regarding skateboarding within the Town.  In August 2000, a group of young citizens of Millington attended the Mayor and Council meeting requesting a skateboard park be built, citing that by building a public park there would be a decrease in safety issues and damage from skateboarding on sideways and others properties.  During the month of August, Mayor and Council researched insurance information, legal issues, public safety issues, and construction costs to provide a Skateboard facility at Robvanary Park.  At the September 6, 2000 meeting, Councilwoman Massey, Councilman Piposzar, and Mayor Hager agreed to provide a Skateboard facility when funding is met.  Funding was to be provided from POS money and donations with matching funds from the Town.  The group of youths raised funds through car washes, bake sales, and soliciting for donations from area businesses.  In February 2001, the site for the Millington Skateboard Park was staked and construction began soon afterwards.  To date 189 area youths are registered to use the Skateboard Park.
